Ponte di Legno and Tonale
Holidays in Ponte di Legno - skiing in summer
Ponte di Legno and Passo Tonale: these 2 skiing areas stand for glacier-skiing not only in winter but also in summer. The slopes are situated on the wind protected hillside of the Presena glacier.
Thanks to that, the snow is of excellent quality even during the summer months. That's why many national ski teams train here during summer to prepare for the upcoming world cup season.
The hiking and climbing in summer.
Challenging mountains for experienced climbers are for example Mt. Adamello (3.554 m above sea level), Mt. Vedretta del Mandrone and Mt. Cima Presanella (3.558 m above sea level). But don't worry, in the surroundings of Ponte di Legno you can certainly find a lot of easy excursions too!
Passo Tonale
Tonale Pass is one of the most important tourist stations in the Val di Sole valley. It is located at the foot of the Presena Glacier (3,000 m) and is equipped with numerous accommodations and services facilities.
It also hosts the Mountain Tourism Professions Training Centre, founded by the Autonomous Province of Trento.
Besides summer skiing on the glacier, numerous hiking opportunities are available here. The most picturesque tours include climbing up to the small lakes of Presena bed and to the Presena Hut, which is at about 3000 m height, and climbing up to Presanella and Paradiso Pass, where you can find a monument to soldiers who died in the First World War. Further up the pass, you can climb to the peaks of Albiolo, theater of numerous battles where you can still see entrenchments dating back to that war. An ancient pilgrim hospice, with a small church harking back to 1127 dedicated to St. Bartholomew is located on the pass. The Tonale pasture areas have been among the major, ancient and renowned pasturing and crossing places for many centuries. During the summer Tonale Pass offers spectacular hikes on glaciers.
